I dedicate it to my mentor who has supported me in all my stupidity so far.
This application will help beekeepers and scientists to measure cubital index on bees.
One of the major goal is to collect data about bees cubital index values world wide.
If we know more, we have better chances to help them to survive.
To be valid sample you need to take at least 30 bees from hive. Hives are usually located in small or large apiary. It is important to take 30 (or more) bees from same hive. If you want to check more hives, you have to take new 30 (or more) bees from next hive and so on.
Less then 30 bees from one hive IS NOT A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE. Make conclusion without at least 30 bees is wrong. Take 30 (or more) bees from apiary (not from single hive) is not valid method as well, but this mistake is happens in lot of cases.
If you just take bees sample from hive, and they are alive, the best solution is to put them in freezer overnight.
If bees are dead you are ready for the next step.
From each bees take right-front wing using tweezer. The best way is to use flat tweezer and firmly take at root of wing, while hold bee's thorax with fingers, and just seperate wing. Put wing on slide. Repeat these steps for rest of bees. To reduce cost, you can put 15 wings (3x5) at one slide.
When you full up slide, take another one and put it on sorted wings to fix it. Use liquid glue or nail polish to stick slides together. After glue is dried you are ready for next step.
Don't forget to mark your slide with permanent marker
(Locality; Slide ID; Hive ID; Samples 1-15; Date).
Add record in your database, excel file or note with full information about samples. Slide identification number, location, elevation, sampling date, your name.
